I traveled to Lewiston, Maine for my first college show on April 8th, 2001. Nearly fourteen and a half years and more than 900 college shows later, I returned to Bates College tonight. And it was magic. So much love to these students’ epic spirits and hearts. What an incredible night.

Three minutes after getting out of my car to take this picture, two police cars pulled into the lot and faced me. If I didn’t have light skin and green eyes, I doubt they would have let me leave unscathed. To say there is an aggressive, militaristic police presence here would be an understatement.
